Necro help
Hey Necros,
I am looking for a bit of help. Started a Factions Necro and finally managed to get the island bit over with. Now I am heading into the game itself and am faced with the following problem. How to properly use my necro...
I have taken Mesmer as 2nd prof to use in conjunction with Curses but what curses and mesmer skills would be a good match for a cursing Necro?
Then when playing MM, how on earth do you manage to heal your minions?! I have blood of the master, works well enough by healing for 99 on all minions but they don't last very long. Friend said I should get Veratas Sacrifice, but that is a prophecies skill and it is proving difficult to get at this stage Any hints/tips?
Thanks

A superior rune of Death Magic would help, on the appropriate hat. My minions heal for 122 with Blood of the Master, and probably are higher-level than yours as well.
Pretty much, you should have a hat with a sup rune for each of Blood, Curses, and Death, unless there's one of those you never want to run.
Going N/Mo and running Heal Area (or Jamei's Healing Circle or whatever it's called in Prophecies) also helps between fights.
In Prophecies Curses is great because of Spiteful Spirit, which can be gotten at the same as you buy your top-level armor if you purchased a run to Drok's Landing. I don't know that it's as great without SS.

I;ll check Droks again, but from what I read you can only purchase SS from Copperhammer. And trust me, I tried getting a run there (even offering 10k for) and no one would budge
Is Verata Sacrifice worth getting then or should I rather just try heal my minions until the next batch of corpses?

You cant purchase ss, It is an elite, but You can cap it right outside of Camp Rancor. If I remember correctly.

Ok man... don't think of the secondary when going MM. Have a pure necro skill bar.
Horrors are a good idea because they add a body block. Fiends last longer because they generally stay away from damage. THey're more distance fighters. When you get to Senji's corner, if you want a nice way to manage fiends and vampiric horrors, try picking up Glyph of Lesser Energy (must switch 2nd to elementalist). That GoLEnergy {5} + Fiend(or Vhorror) {25} = 15 minion cost (25 - 15 {glyph effect} + 5 {glyph cost}).
You can't play Spiteful Spirit unless you go to Tyria and hunt the Azure with it, so that's out.
But there are insidious builds you can do mixing curses and illusion magic.
A nice blood Spike with support is:
Life Siphon
Vamp Gaze
Dark Pact
Lifeband Strike
Well of Blood
Toss on some inspiration skills for rng management if you need.
Shivers of Dread is your friend. Combined with any other skills, it makes a very powerful interruption.
Illusion of Haste
Plague Touch (or Plague Signet)
Vile Miasma
Nice combination for crippling and degenning enemies.
Lyssa's Balance is always great for removing single enchantments from enemies at no cost to you (except nrg).
Basically, get super creative. Look for builds in the forums here, but first, read and understand the individual skills. There's a lot that can go together and synergize VERY well.
Unlike Prophecies, Factions has tons of elites that are just available from the start. You can snag them so earily on that you may want to make sure you have capsigs with you at all times.
If you own both games (prophecies and factions) you should try hitting Tyria and doing skill quests. Those are cheaper ways to increase your arcane base without paying for it.

Oh man, I wish I was there when you offered 10k for Copperhammer. I would have run you for sure.
SS can be found north of Camp Rankor though, I think sometimes north of Copperhammer as well (but not too sure).
Xenoranger is right though, if you MM, 2nd profession doesn't come into play. You can however, buy Verata's spells after Lion's Arch though (exactly where, I can't remember).
Xenoranger also just posted a nice degen build as well (N/ME I think).
I have a Tyrian N/Me and a Canthas born Rit/N. My N/Me wasn't a MM until I achieved Verata's. Sadly, now Verata's has been changed as did BotM. Normally I am SS+blood. I only use my Mesmer skills when I need to interupt monsters. I don't bother with condition builds, but N/Me has some nice onces if you go that route.
My Rit/N is a MM as well and I used restoration spells on myself and BotM on my minions. Do they die quickly? Yeah, but since there are so many bodies lying around during and after the battle, I create more minions. Now with Boon of Creation, I can regain energy and health back with each minion I create.
Without SS or some of the other Elites or skills found only in Prophecies,
I'm not too sure. I can't remember what is a core skill and what is Factions only.
Domination, Blood and Illusion rock in Factions (too many spellcasters).

Love my guildwiki
But, he's right. Prophecies really has the best necro elites. Kinda sucks b/c canthan elites are just too conditional. Take discord (for instance). Enemy must be suffering a condition and hex for it to work. Otherwise, you're just casting blanks. WEll, enemy removes 1 or the other, and you're wasting mana casting it.
Only good canthan elites (IMO) are Wail of Doom and Icy Veins. Even then, I'm not too happy with Icy Veins.

Holy crap, yes. Death is almost meaningless here unless you're an MM.
There are some builds that effectively use death, but I can't merit a sup death rune unless you're running MM.
Curses are very tactful. Remember to use them well, grasshopper. Just.. not against other players or you may be booted from your group for foul language =p...
Seriously though. combining curses in the game is very useful. Just be mindful of what they do. Various curses will enhance the effects of other spells. I use enfeeble alot because most people ignore this condition. Well, ignore enfeeble and while you're suffering from weakness (the condition it causes) I"ll hit them with Vile Miasma for a degen.
Just a warning... Reckless Haste + Insidious Parasite is never a good idea. Be weary of combinations like this. Speeding up your enemy's attack to increase their chances of missing is a great idea, but when you hex them with a spell that requires them to hit, it's bad. Just like Dazing an enemy then using backfire on them.
Necromancers are also alot about sacrifice, so if you don't like playing chess, pick a different class. For every step backward you take, you should be taking a step sideways. It may not make sense, but when you figure the necro is more like the knight in chess, it'll make more sense. Nothing necros do is direct. Everything sets up something else. Before assassins could chain moves togather, Necros could be used to set up some terrible damage against enemies. As the knight in chess moves in an odd pattern, remember that the necromancer doesn't work like straight forward casting classes.

Thanks for the responses here !! Sorry I got my skills mixed up there, SS I will cap tonight, I really want it for my curses build
I am really enjoying Necro, not a good chess player though Will see how it goes. Will give those builds a try and see what I can come up with.
